If you feel that you lack the essential skills then why not enroll on a part time course. Many community colleges provide courses in basic construction skills. You could combine your theory with some practice in your own back yard.
The rammed earth construction starts by setting out the wall area. The ground is cleared off all the top soil. A trench is excavated about one foot deep. A mass concrete foundation and a short foundation wall is laid. The wall is done one foot above the ground to hold the hardcore layer. A damp proof membrane is laid on the masonry foundation. Timber form work is fixed on both sides of the wall. A holder bat is nailed to stop the timber sides from widening.
Where you position the brackets at the top will again depend on the width of the window jamb. Set the bracket too far back and you will have the window hitting the blinds problem. I usually like to bring the bracket forward to the front of the jamb, so that there is the maximum clearance.
Thickness of the walls depends on climate. In warm areas thinner walls are acceptable, but the further north you go the thicker you need to make the walls. In some parts of Canada a two wall system (one exterior and one interior) are sometimes used.
So no problems so far. The wooden internal walls are filled with insulation which means that the house is warmer and more comfortable to live in than a block house and certainly in the long run is much cheaper to run. And that means that sq ft for sq ft it has a much lower impact on the environment than a block house.
On top of that construct a timber frame home in the shape of your greenhouse. The timber should be 4 inches by 6 inches. Your timber merchant will probably cut it to length for you. Check that the frame is horizontal with a level.
There is also a day-use area on the east side of the building that is open to the public from 9 a.m. until one hour before sunset. A restroom and a picnic area make this a comfortable refuge for day hikers or skiers.
Austing Haus, like the slopes is at a high elevation and gets plenty of powdery snow. Some snow seasons are better than others, but skiers rave over the overall quality. Like the B&B, the slopes are not corporate owned and have a cozy, down-home feel.
